Device Management lets you customize your your desk phone straight from the NUACOM portal. You can set up the phone's programmable keys and change its time settings, and your changes stay on the phone, even after it restarts.

PLEASE NOTE: Device Management is available for Fanvil phones only at this time. Some of the supported models are Fanvil V62, V65, X3U, X5U, X6U and X210. The phone must be assigned to an extension in your account. If your phobe is not supported, you won't see the option to configure it.

Who can use it

  • Account admins can open Device Management for every extension that has a supported Fanvil phone.
  • Users can open it for their own extension only.

How to open Device Management

  1. Navigate to Settings > Extensions.
  2. Find the extension that has your Fanvil phone.
  3. Click the IP phone button on that extension's row.

The button only appears on extensions that have a supported phone. If you do not see it, check that your phone model is on the supported list above and that the phone is assigned to the extension.

The settings window opens with the phone's name, model and MAC address at the top. When you open a phone for the first time, a tip points to the Preview button.

What you can change

The window is organized into tabs. Which tabs you see depends on your phone model.

Setting up keys

Each key can show a name or perform an action. Keys are arranged in pages in some phones. Use the page buttons to move between pages.

Use the account keys or set your own

Every key starts with the settings your account already uses. To change a key, switch Override on for that key. The account setting is copied across and you can edit it. Switch Override off to go back to the account setting.

Key types

Key typeWhat it does
BLFShows whether a colleague's extension is free or busy, and lets you call or transfer to them with one press.
Parking lotParks a call in a parking slot (*61 to *64) so another extension can pick it up.
Speed DialCalls a number with one press.
LineAssigns a line to the key.

To set up a key:

  1. Open the Display keys, Side panel keys or Extension board tab.
  2. Switch Override on for the key you want to change.
  3. Choose the key type.
  4. Choose the extension or enter the number the key should use.
  5. Check the key name.
  6. Click Save.

The name fills in automatically for BLF, Parking lot and Line keys. You can change it. Speed Dial keys start with a blank name.

Important: changing the key type clears the key's name and target. Choose the type first.

Key rules

  • Name: between 3 and 50 characters.
  • Speed Dial number: 2 to 15 digits, with an optional + at the start. Spaces, brackets and dashes are removed automatically. For example, +353 85 123 4567 becomes +353851234567.
  • BLF: Choose an extension that exists in your account.
  • Parking lot: Choose one of the available slots (*61 to *64).

If a Speed Dial number is not in international format (for example, it has no +353), the field shows a yellow border. This is a warning only. You can still save.

If a key points to a deleted extension

If a BLF key points to an extension that has since been deleted, it appears greyed out. Choose a different extension before you save. You cannot save a key that points to an extension that no longer exists.

Preview before saving

Hover over the Device view icon to see how your keys will look on the phone. The preview updates as you edit, before you save anything.

The preview does not show your time settings.

Time settings

Open the Time tab to change how the phone shows the time and date.

  • Time zone: The time zone the phone uses.
  • Time server / Secondary time server: The server the phone gets its time from.
  • Resync interval: How often the phone checks the time server. Enter a whole number from 60 to 600 seconds.
  • Time format: 12-hour or 24-hour clock.
  • Date format and separator: How the date is written, and the character that separates it (., /, - or a space).

Time settings follow the same Override logic as keys: The account value is used until you override it.

Saving your changes

  1. Click Save.
  2. A progress window shows the phone being updated.
  3. When it shows Changes applied successfully, your changes are live.

Important: Every save restarts the phone. Wait until the phone is idle before you save, as any active call will be dropped.

If you have not changed anything, you will see the Everything is up to date, there is nothing to save message.

If something is missing or invalid

If a value is wrong, you will see Some values are missing or invalid: check the fields marked in red. Nothing is saved until every tab is correct. The window opens the first tab that needs attention.

All your changes are saved together. If one tab has an error, none of your changes are applied until it is fixed.

If the update does not finish

Your changes are saved in NUACOM even if the phone does not confirm the update. If the progress window reports an error, or the phone does not finish updating, restart the phone manually. If the problem continues, contact support.

Additional information

  • Only the settings you override are stored for the phone. Everything else keeps following your account settings.
  • If you set a value that is the same as your account's value, it is not treated as an override.
  • Settings are stored per extension and phone model. If the extension is moved to a new phone of the same model, the settings follow.

FAQ

Why can't I see the IP phone button? The button appears only on extensions that have a supported Fanvil phone. Check that the phone model is on the supported list and that it is assigned to the extension. If you are not an admin, you can only see the button on your own extension.

Will my changes be lost if the phone restarts or loses power? No. Your changes are saved in NUACOM and are applied again every time the phone restarts.

Will saving interrupt my calls? Yes. The phone restarts after every save, so make your changes when the phone is not in use.

Why can't I save my key? Check the fields marked in red. The most common causes are a name shorter than 3 characters, a Speed Dial number with fewer than 2 digits, or a BLF key pointing to a deleted extension.

Can I undo my changes? Yes. Switch Override off for the key or setting and click Save. The phone goes back to the account setting.

Can I change network settings on my phone? Not from the portal. Contact support if you need a network change on your phone.
