ComReg Sender ID Registry 🇮🇪 - NUACOM Approval

  • Updated

SMS Sender ID Regulation in Ireland (ComReg)

The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) has introduced new rules to reduce scam texts and calls in Ireland.

Under these rules, all businesses sending SMS messages using a Sender ID (for example, a company name instead of a number) must register that Sender ID.

Why This Matters

If a Sender ID is not registered, messages may be changed or blocked.

Key Dates

  • 3 July – 2 October 2025 (Transition Phase)
Messages sent with unregistered Sender IDs will be changed to show “Likely Scam” to recipients.
  • From 3 October 2025 (Enforcement Phase)
Messages sent with unregistered Sender IDs will be blocked completely.
  • 14th April 2026 - 5 Digit Number Registration Enforced
Businesses also need to register 5-digit numbers with the network as Sender Names. It needs to be done before 14 April 2026 to avoid the 5XXXX Sender ID being modified to “Likely Scam” on the A2P SMS Channel.
