Information about the Regulation
The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) is actively working with the telecoms industry to mitigate the scourge of scam texts and calls in Ireland. Τhey have created a Sender ID Registry where all companies need to register their Sender IDs for sending SMS to end customers.
Key Enforcement Dates of the Regulation:
3 July—2 October 2025: Transition Phase—Unregistered Sender IDs will be modified to “Likely Scam” to alert recipients that the message may not be genuine.
3 October 2025: Operation Phase — SMS messages with unregistered Sender IDs will be blocked entirely.
NUACOM, is an authorised SMS provider in Ireland, and we have actively participated in the pre-registration phase of Sender IDs for our customers. This early access opportunity allows our clients to secure their Sender IDs ahead of the general registration period, ensuring uninterrupted service for their SMS communications.
Although we register the Sender IDs on behalf of our customers, the customer has to initially register to the ComReg registry as a company and then manually approve the usage of the Sender ID by NUACOM. Once NUACOM does the initial registration on behalf of the customer, the customer will receive an email from ComReg to activate their account and approve NUACOM to use their Sender ID to relay SMS messages through the NUACOM Messaging platform.
Account Registration in the SenderID Registry
If you have not participated in the pre-registration phase and you have never owned a Sender Name to use for SMS in Ireland, then you need to first register with the ComReg Sender ID Registry.
To do that, head to the ComReg Registry sign-up page here and register as a Sender ID Owner:
In Step 1, provide all the details needed from ComReg for your company.
In Step 2 (optional), you can request your desired Sender Name. If you don't want to do this during registration, NUACOM can request a Sender Name for you later.
In Step 3, select NUACOM as your OPA.
In Step 4, read and agree to the terms.
As soon as you submit your application, ComReg will reach out to you with the result. If your application has been approved, you will receive the following email asking you to activate your account:
After you have activated your account, you can contact NUACOM to register your Sender Name for you if you haven't requested it in Step 2.
For more information on the Account Registration process, please see the attached manual from ComReg, Public Guide, at the end of this article.
Approving NUACOM as your provider
When NUACOM requests a Sender Name for you, once approved from ComReg, you will get an email notification to approve NUACOM as your SMS provider. The email will look like this:
Once received, please head to http://senderid.comreg.ie/ and use your credentials to log in.
The first screen that you will see is the approval of your Sender IDs:
Here you can see your Sender IDs, the OPA (which in this case is your SMS provider) and an option to Accept or Refuse the Authorisation.
To approve NUACOM as your SMS provider, just click on approve and then confirm:
You will get a success message at the bottom of the screen.
Change your Sender ID approvals
If you dismissed this initial pop-up or need to change your authorisations, after logging in to the Sender ID portal, just go to the My Sender IDs menu.
Locate your Sender ID and click on the Pending Authorisations button. Then Approve or Refuse the Authorisation and click on Confirm.
If you have approved the Sender ID, you can see your SMS provider, NUACOM, in the OPA column.
If you need to add additional providers or change your authorisations, click on the OPA Authorisation button, and there you can (de) authorise your providers.
